Selection assessments for flying schools
Due to our years of experience, AMC is your partner in the selection of students who apply for the flying course. Ab-initio candidates must be tested as to their skills and aptitude with respect to their:
- Intellectual level
- Flying talent
- Personality
Intellectual level assessment
The candidates’ general intellectual level is a good basis for predicting whether candidates will be successful in completing their flight training. Candidates must have sufficient intellectual skills in order to master the ATPL theory in a relatively short period of time. A fully digital test system, the Global Pilot Selection System, is used to test the level of the candidates. The results of all candidates are compared to a reference group comprising ab-initio candidates who were tested as to their suitability for the commercial pilot training.
Flying talent
In a sensomotoric assessment candidates are tested to determine whether they have the skills that form the basis for acquiring flying skills. Components of the sensomotoric assessment include:
- Spatial and geographic orientation
- Multitasking
- Coordination
- Short-term memory
Personality
Candidates are examined by a psychologist to determine whether they have a number of essential competencies for successfully completing the flight training. The personality assessment focuses on the following competencies:
- Assertiveness
- Attention
- Decisiveness
- Communication
- Emotional stability
- Leadership potential
- Planning and anticipation
- Representation
- Cooperation
- Service orientation
- Sense of responsibility
- Self-knowledge
Reporting and recommendation
All results are combined into a psychological report. Test results and competency assessments are reflected in a graph and accompanied by a detailed personality description and, if so desired, a recommendation. Alternatively, a summarized score (strengths and weaknesses analysis) is presented through which you can draw your own conclusions. The report is usually submitted within five working days; candidates are given the opportunity to peruse their results prior to submission.
